When to contact the Ombudsman for Minorities? The Ombudsman for Minorities provides its services primarily to immigrants, foreigners living in Finland and the more traditional minority groups in Finland, such as Roma and Sami people. The Ombudsman only deals with questions of discrimination on the basis of ethnic origin or foreign nationality. She does not, however, deal with rights or advice that are related to discrimination on other grounds. Discrimination cases reported to the Ombudsman will be referred to the competent authority where necessary. As regards ethnic discrimination, the powers of the Ombudsman cover cases where the customer reports to have experienced discrimination from public authorities or service providers in the private or public sector, such as companies, entrepreneurs or municipalities.
